Snowmaking
Producing machine made snow- what is it and how does it work?

Machine made snow consists of very small ice crystals. Snowmaking using Areco fan guns requires 480v electric power, water supplied under pressure and atmospheric conditions below freezing. Starting from the source, water is pumped under high pressure through a pipe network to the trails where snow guns are connected. The water is sprayed through nozzles and a fan projects the droplets into the cold air. An air compressor is used mix compressed air with a small volume of water to create nucleators- small ice crystals- through evaporative cooling The water droplets mix with the nucleators and grow into larger ice crystals. The colder the air temperature, the more water that can be sprayed and freeze completely.
